Mantova in pursuit of ISO 14001 certification, to be implemented in the first half of 2023
With its quality management system certified to ISO 9001:2015 standards since 2002, and IATF 16949:2016 since 2011, Mantova is organizing itself to implement ISO 14001, which signals the guarantee that certified corporations are constantly seeking to improve their management system, environmental protection and mitigate the problems that your production chain can bring to business partners and society. The preparation is being carried out from the training of the personnel involved with the process, in the recruitment of qualified professionals to advise the implantation and in the awareness of the collaborators regarding the rules stipulated by the norm and legislation. “The attitude adopted by the company regarding the awareness of avoiding waste, correctly separating waste and other related actions is already part of our culture. All employees are also aware of the importance of taking care of the internal environment and the environment”, adds Henrique Debom, quality coordinator.
The ISO 14001 certification has been part of Mantova's Strategic Planning since 2020, but it had to be extended due to the pandemic. From the resumption of the project, which is being coordinated by the Quality sector, the implementation should start in April and bring together the activities adhering to the standard this year. Environmental aspects and a sustainable vision have always constituted the corporate objectives, forming part of the company's management policy. Actions aimed at contributing to the quality of the workplace, such as ergonomics and compliance with applicable environmental legislation, prove this premise. “We use LED lamps throughout the factory, we have a structure for the reuse of rainwater in the toilets, floor washing and irrigation of green areas, in addition to the selective collection of solid waste, ensuring its proper destination”, says Debom.
Even having sustainable practice as one of its strategic principles, Mantova recognizes that some changes related to organizational culture will occur through the implementation of ISO 14001. “Basic routines must be monitored and charged. Initiatives will be needed that influence the way of thinking, acting, communicating and raising awareness among employees in a positive way”, explains Debom, highlighting that such efforts and adjustments will make the company more visible, routines more uniform and national and international requirements fully met. “This will leave Mantova at a differentiated level in its market. With the visibility allowed by the certification, other reputable companies will come to see us as a potential supplier, in addition to a positive result for society”, he emphasizes. A commitment that has already taken shape and should be implemented with the request for the ISO 14001 certificate during the first half of 2023.
